Lord Chickenton

One good thing about knowing amigurumis all around the world is that by visiting them you get to travel and live amazing adventures.
(Or not so amazing, just normal. Sometimes not even adventures.)

Today I'd like you to meet Lord Chickenton, a good old friend whom I had the chance to visit last month in London.

Please, meet Clarence Eggswhite, 9th Earl of Chickenton. I'm sure you've noticed the great resemblance with our beloved Hen Sister. And this is not just by chance but because they happen to be relatives. Indeed. And not very distant actually. (They'll never admit that though, since they kind of hate each other)

One couldn't say that Lord Chickenton is known for his kind and nice nature. Instead, he's a grumpy who likes judging everything and everyone that sorrounds him.

Anything appart from a grey and rainy morning in London, or a green summer day in Pocchedeggshire, where his castle is, is of no importance to him and he finds it poor taste or just "hippie". - "What are we hippies now?"- he uses to say when he's angry.

He is old-fashioned and a very conservative chicken. He likes to show off his high moral strandards, but I know that he, secretly, loves to dress as a woman.

He's always talking about the good old days in Cambridge, with his friend Pongo Fitz-Rooster and the rest of the Pidgeons Club. As in that day, when they stole the mascot of those morons of Oxford. -"Those where the days, my dear. And now, the youth... they all acting like hippies"- he says while he adjusts his monocle.

Clarence Eggswhite is number 2.547 in line to the English throne. And, if there's anything that this bizarre Lord enjoys, this is to silently hate the Queen of England. He judges that he's the legitimate heir and that the other 2.546 applicants are nothing but deceiving anti-British traitors.

As you can see, if you try to talk to Lord Chickenton, about any subject, you'll most probably end up getting under his skin. And I love doing that. (Insert evil laughter here)

Y a mi me encanta exasperarle.

I don't believe half the stories he tells, nevertheless I have to admit that it's still funny listening to him. He certainly is something.

Lord Chickenton is a small homage to P.G. Wodehouse, Lord Emsworth, Bertie Wooster, Jeeves and all the Blandings universe that so many times has made my father and I cry out of laughter.

There's no pattern, I used the Hen Sister pattern and add a mustache, monocle and bowler hat. I made him using Katia Fair Cotton and a 2,00mm hook. And, really guys, I had so much fun costumizing my Hen Sister <3

#thewalkinghen

Those who follow me on Instagram are already aware of what is going on with my Hen Sister lately. It's an inexplicable mistery. I was spending a nice and quiet Saturday at home when suddenly I received a whatsapp. It was my chicken sending me a selfie.... from Delft!! I didn't even know that she wasn't at home!

My Hen Sister walking around the Amsterdam canals

From then on I keep receiving those selfies from all over The Netherlands . I know that she comes home sometimes, because I can see her tracks, but I never get to see her. I'm starting to think that she got herself a bike, otherwise I don't get how she can move around so quickly...

My Hen Sister visiting the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

Honestly, I have to admit that I was a little mad when it all started... come on, she's travelling much more than me and meanwhile I'm bored and worried at home!

But it doesn't bother me anymore, now I feel happy for her and the fact that she's enjoying herself. It's just that... I miss her so much!

If you also have a Walking Hen, don't forget to use the hashtag #thewalkinghen or #paseatugallina so we can follow their tracks.

And if you don't have your own Hen Sister yet, run for your pattern and make one, or ask someone to make one for you, or even better, make one for you and one for your friends so they can also take them for a walk!

CAL Hen Sisters, tejamos gallinas juntos

The Hen Sisters, new PDF pattern

Great news today because finally I'm able to talk about the last project I've been working on. It has nothing to do with Mijn Grote Familie (I hope Pickles and Minus will understand...), but it's also very special to me. Let me exlpain why...

Ladies and gentlemen... THE HEN SISTERS!

Con ustedes..... LAS GALLINAS SISTERS!

My friend Pili has 3 sisters, Pepi, Paqui and Puri. The 4 of them live apart, separated even by an ocean. That's why they don't get to see each other that much as they would like. Even so, they share a nice house on the beach, where they try to meet as often as they can.

My friend Pili asked me to design and make 4 crochet hens, one for each sister, since she wanted to give them to her sisters as a present and used them to decorate the house. The hens had to be very-very crazy and colorful. Pili also wanted me to add a label with the name of each sister embroidered on it. The idea instantly made me dream. It makes me very happy thinking that eventhough the 4 sisters are not together, the 4 hens always will be, cackling on the shelf, with their hanging legs...

I love the fact that she chose hens, because we always think hens = noise, riot, shouting, everybody speaking at the same time.... that's to say, a family or old friends meeting, right? That's why I like the idea of this hens as presents that you can make for your best friends, cousins, sons... whoever you would cackle with...

You can make a lot of them, since they are much fun to crochet, one for each one of your friends, with different colors and hook sizes. You can also add an embroidered label with their names to create an even more special present. Each time you and your friends or siblings look at your hen, you'll think of each other.

Separated by distance but united by hens!

The Hen Sisters PDF pattern is now available on my Etsy Shop and on Ravelry. It has 10 pages with written instructions and step by step pictures. Well detailed and explained.

It's an amigurumi pattern suitable for an Intermediate + level or level 4. It's not difficult, but you have to know more than just the chain or single crochet.
