Lord Chickenton

One good thing about knowing amigurumis all around the world is that by visiting them you get to travel and live amazing adventures. 

(Or not so amazing, just normal. Sometimes not even adventures.) 

Today I'd like you to meet Lord Chickenton, a good old friend whom I had the chance to visit last month in London.

Lo bueno de conocer amigurumis por todo el mundo es que, con la excusa de visitarles, acabas viajando y viviendo aventuras. Hoy os voy a presentar a Lord Chickenton, un viejo amigo al que tuve la oportunidad de visitar el mes pasado en Londres.

Please, meet Clarence Eggswhite, 9th Earl of Chickenton. I'm sure you've noticed the great resemblance with our beloved Hen Sister. And this is not just by chance but because they happen to be relatives. Indeed. And not very distant actually. (They'll never admit that though, since they kind of hate each other)

Este es Clarence Eggswhite, 9º Conde de Chickenton. Sin duda habréis reconocido al vuelo el gran parecido que guarda con una conocida nuestra, la querida Hen Sister. Y esto no se trata de una simple coincidencia, no, es que resulta que son parientes. Y no muy lejanos. (Aunque ellos nunca lo reconocerán abiertamente, no se tienen mucho aprecio)

One couldn't say that Lord Chickenton is known for his kind and nice nature. Instead, he's a grumpy who likes judging everything and everyone that sorrounds him.

Lord Chickenton no es precisamente conocido por su buen carácter. Es un gruñón que juzga todo lo que tiene a su alrededor y difícilmente encuentra algo de su gusto.

Anything appart from a grey and rainy morning in London, or a green summer day in Pocchedeggshire, where his castle is, is of no importance to him and he finds it poor taste or just "hippie". - "What are we hippies now?"- he uses to say when he's angry.

Todo lo que no sea una mañana lluviosa y gris en Londres o un verde día de verano en el condado de Pocchedeggshire, donde se encuentra su castillo, carece de interés para él y lo encuentra de poco gusto o simplemente "fhippie" - "Es que acaso somos hippies?"- suele exclamar cuando se exalta.

He is old-fashioned and a very conservative chicken. He likes to show off his high moral strandards, but I know that he, secretly, loves to dress as a woman.

Está chapado a la antigua, es un pollo muy conservador y presume de sus elevados principios morales, pero yo se que en la intimidad le gusta vestirse de mujer.

He's always talking about the good old days in Cambridge, with his friend Pongo Fitz-Rooster and the rest of the Pidgeons Club. As in that day, when they stole the mascot of those morons of Oxford. -"Those where the days, my dear. And now, the youth... they all acting like hippies"- he says while he adjusts his monocle.

Siempre habla de los viejos días en Cambridge, con su amigo Pongo Fitz-Rooster y el resto del Club de los Palomos. Como el día en el que robaron la mascota a esos incompetentes de Oxford. - "Esos si eran buenos tiempos, querida. No como ahora, que todos los jóvenes parecen hippies"- me dice mientras se ajusta el monóculo.

Clarence Eggswhite is number 2.547 in line to the English throne. And, if there's anything that this bizarre Lord enjoys, this is to silently hate the Queen of England. He judges that he's the legitimate heir and that the other 2.546 applicants are nothing but deceiving anti-British traitors.

Clarence Eggswhite es el número 2.547 en la línea de sucesión al trono inglés. Y si hay algo con lo que disfruta este excéntrico pollo es odiando en silencio a la reina de Inglaterra. Considera que él es el legítimo heredero y que los 2.546 aspirantes que están antes de él son unos farsantes traidores antibritánicos.

As you can see, if you try to talk to Lord Chickenton, about any subject, you'll most probably end up getting under his skin. And I love doing that. (Insert evil laughter here)

Como ves, si hablas con Lord Chickenton, son pocos los temas que podrás tocar sin que se le hinchen las barbillas y se le salgan los ojos de las órbitas (más aún). Y a mi me encanta exasperarle.

I don't believe half the stories he tells, nevertheless I have to admit that it's still funny listening to him. He certainly is something.

No creo que ni la mitad de historietas que cuenta sean verdad, pero aún así sigue siendo divertido escucharle. Es, ciertamente, un personaje peculiar. 

Lord Chickenton is a small homage to P.G. Wodehouse, Lord Emsworth, Bertie Wooster, Jeeves and all the Blandings universe that so many times has made my father and I cry out of laughter.

There's no pattern, I used the Hen Sister pattern and add a mustache, monocle and bowler hat. I made him using Katia Fair Cotton and a 2,00mm hook. And, really guys, I had so much fun costumizing my Hen Sister <3

Lord Chickenton es un pequeño homenaje a P.G. Wodehouse, Lord Emsworth, Bertie Wooster, Jeeves y todo el universo Blandings  con el que tantas risas nos hemos echado mi padre y yo.

No hay patrón, simplemete usé el patrón de la Hen Sister y le añadí un bigote, un bombín y un monóculo. Para hacerlo he usado Katia Fair Cotton y un gancho de 2,00mm. Y, en serio, lo he pasado genial customizando mi gallina <3

Knit With Attitude, London

A few weeks ago I told you about my trip to London and that I had the chance to visit some wonderful yarn shops and it's my pleasure to share them with you. (Yes, you. You little vicious yarn freak that, like me, every time you travel anywhere, instead of looking up on the Lonely Planet travel guide you run to google and type: yarn shops in "wherever you're going". This is for you)

Hace unas semanas os comentaba que durante un fin de semana que pasé hace poco en Londres, tuve la oportunidad de visitar un par de preciosas tiendas laneras, que ahora comparto con todos vosotros (viciosos como yo, que cuando os vais de viaje en vez de mirar el Lonely Planet os vais directos a Google y ponéis: "tiendas de lanas en la conchinchina").

KNIT WITH ATTITUDE

How cool is this name? I think it says everything. In this shop in Hackney they not only knit but they commit, they specialise in ethical and eco-friendly yarn and they try to share their concern about the world and their positive attitude in everything they do, every workshop, every talk... Which by the way is something that is concerning me more and more everyday. Where does the yarn that we use come from, and the cotton... ? And much more questions...

El nombre ya me parece buenísimo y lo dice todo. En esta pequeña tienda en Hackney no sólo tejen sino que además se comprometen, ya que están especializados en lanas éticas y ecofriendly y pretenden que en todas las actividades y acciones que llevan a cabo se refleje su actitud positiva hacia el mundo.

Charlando con Maya, su propietaria, quien lleva toda la vida tejiendo, comentamos el olvido en el que había caído el mundo de las agujas unas décadas atrás, pero cómo las nuevas generaciones lo estaban recuperando y no sólo eso sino que, aparentemente, el ganchillo estaba cobrando mucha más presencia ante el molde que anteriormente. Eso sin duda son buenas noticias para los ganchilleros del mundo!

They share the place with a print studio and gallery, "Of Cabbages & Kings", which makes the offer even richer. If this is not enough, they also have ceramics and the jewels for knitters by Max Alexander.

Como veis en las fotos, la tienda es una monada y tienen una muy amplia variedad de productos, charlas y workshops. Como valor añadido, comparten local con un estudio de estampación, "Of Cabbages & Kings", por lo que también podéis encontrar originales posters, tarjetas y bolsas tan chulas como la que veis en la foto "Nobody puts my crochet aside." No os morís de ganas por tener una?

Pues además de todas estas cosas, tienen cerámica, y las joyas para tejedores de Max Alexander, que son una pasada. Broches, colgantes, pendientes... todo relacionado con ovillos, agujas, ganchos... una auténtica maravilla. Yo, claro, no pude resistirme y me compré el broche y los pendientes que veis más abajo. No me los quito.

Loop, London

I had the opportunity to visit London last weekend. As you can imagine, if I go to London it's not because of the Big Ben but to visit all the wonderful yarn shops they have there. Actually it turned to be a "problem"... very big city, too many wonderful shops... Luckily, a few weeks ago I met some girls from London at the Etsy European Captain's Summit, so I asked Becky from PJ Mamma and she recommended a couple of places close to Islington, the neighbourhood where I was staying.

He tenido la oportunidad de viajar a Londres este fin de semana. Como os podéis imaginar, yo si voy a Londres no voy a ver el Big Ben, que ya está muy visto, yo me voy a ver tiendas de lanas y ganchillos...

El "problema" de Londres es que es una ciudad gigantesca llena de tiendas preciosas, y cómo elegir si sólo tengo un día libre? Por suerte hace unas semanas conocí a varias chicas de Londres en el Etsy European Captain's Summit, así que le pregunté a una de ellas, Becky de PJ Mamma y ella me recomendó un par sitios por la zona en la que estaba hospedada, Islington.

LOOP

Inside this shop I felt like in a sanctuary, it's a festival for the senses. I wanted to touch everything, and even eat everything, somehow. They have a very interesting collection of books and magazines, including the one themselves have published on the occasion of the shop's 10th anniversary, Loop's 10. The book includes 12 knitting patterns, available in their shop in London, their online shop and soon the Ebook version will be available.

Nos encontramos ante un auténtico santuario. Todo, absolutamente TODO en esta tienda es maravilloso. Todo lo quieres tocar y casi hasta comértelo. Tienen una amplia colección de libros y revistas, para comprar y consultar, incluyendo un libro que ellas mismas han publicado con motivo del 10 aniversario de la tienda, Loop's 10. En él se incluyen 12 patrones de punto, lo podéis comprar en la tienda si vais a Londres o en su tienda online, y a partir de diciembre estará disponible también una versión Ebook. 

Everytime I visit a yarn shop I like to buy a souvenir (I'm sure I'm not the only one here... am I?) I try to buy what I find different, not easy to find in my city. This time, what caught my eye was this japanese cotton from the Danish brand Isager. It looks like paper or raffia, I've never this kind of cotton before. I'm looking forward to use it but I don't know yet in which project. Any idea or suggestion? Have you ever worked with this cotton?

Siempre me gusta llevarme algún souvenir de las tiendas que visito, (esto seguro que os suena, no? Apuesto el cuello a que todas hacéis lo mismo... que nos conocemos...!!!), e intento que sea aquello que más me llama la atención o más característico del lugar, lo que me parece más raro o que me cuesta encontrar en mi ciudad...

Esta vez lo que me cautivó fue este algodón japonés de la marca danesa Isager. El aspecto es de papel o rafia, totalmente distinto a lo que yo he conocido como algodón hasta ahora. Estoy deseando usarlo, aunque aún no se muy bien en qué. Vosotros lo conocéis, lo habéis usado alguna vez? Tenéis alguna sugerencia en cómo usarlo y en qué?
