Welcome to the origin of The Blanket Project. Probably you already know about this initiative and you may even have crocheted your own blanket, but... how did all this started, do you know it? Well, the origin is actually in the blanket that you see on the picture below. I started it in december 2011 and... there it is... still unfinished, always under construction. And, you know what? I HAD ENOUGH!

I'M GOING TO FINISH MY BLANKET AND YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT ALONG

I wrote the story on this post, but I'll make a brief overview just in case you don't know about it. It was Christmas 2011 and my mother broke her femur, what brought a lot of hours in the hospital and taking care of her at home; so you can imagine what that means: a lot of crochet hours ahead. Then I decided to make all the blocks in Jan Eaton's book "200 crochet blocks" (still in progress). One thing led to another, I started joining them, then I created the group "Proyecto Colcha" in my shop, in which we gathered to crochet our blankets together, and later on I created Proyecto Colcha 2.0.

Bienvenidas al origen del Proyecto Colcha. Sois muchas ya las que os habéis sumado a esta iniciativa y os habéis hecho vuestra colcha, pero.. cómo empezó todo, lo sabéis? Pues el origen está en esta manta que veis en la foto. La empecé en diciembre del 2011 y ahí sigue... inacabada, siempre en construcción. Y sabéis qué? QUE SE ACABÓ!

VOY A ACABAR MI COLCHA Y TÚ LO VAS A HACER CONMIGO

Ya conté la historia en este post, pero os haré un breve resumen para quien no la conozca. Mi madre se rompió el fémur en las navidades del 2011. Muchas horas de hospital y cuidados en casa, y ya sabéis que eso es sinónimo de mucho ganchillo. En ese momento decidí hacer todas las aplicaciones del libro "200 labores de ganchillo" de Jan Eaton (still in progress). Una cosa llevó a la otra, empecé a unirlos formando una colcha, después formé el grupo "Proyecto Colcha" en mi tienda, en el que nos hacíamos nuestras colchas juntas, y más tarde creé el Proyecto Colcha 2.0.

From then, I use to share my progress (not too much progress though) on instagram and facebook, that's how I know that you guys really love the blanket and would like to have the pattern and some directions. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a "pattern", because I've just been using patterns that I've found in books or blogs, and regarding to the materials I've used leftovers mostly.

But since I really want to finish it and I know that you really want to make your own version, I'm going to share with you all the info that I'm able to compile. My challenge is to finish it by March 2017, so... MARCH 2017... there I go!

Desde entonces comparto mis avances (pocos, la verdad) en instagram y facebook, por lo que me consta que la colcha os ha gustado mucho, incluso me soléis pedir los patrones y todo tipo de indicación. No hay un patrón concreto para esta colcha, son aplicaciones que encuentro en libros y en internet. En cuanto a los materiales, he ido usando restos de ovillos y he perdido la pista de algunos de ellos, pero muchos otros sí que los tengo controlados.

Por todo esto, quiero aprovechar este arranque que me ha entrado de terminar la colcha para compartir con vosotras toda la información que recuerde para que os podáis hacer vuestra propia versión. Mi reto es terminarla en marzo, que es cuando empezaron las clases del Proyecto Colcha original. Así que MARZO 2017... allá vamos!

Ladies and gentlemen... this is the last tutorial of our Blanket Project 2.0... This adventure lasted 8 months but now it reached it's end. But don't worry because we have our Facebook group where we can share our progress and our Blankets. It has been a pleasure, I've enjoyed very much designing the crochet blanket and making all the posts. Thank you very much!

Señoras y señores... este es el último tutorial de Proyecto Colcha 2.0... Hemos llegado ya al final de esta aventura que ha durado nada más y nada menos que 8 meses! Los que empezasteis conmigo es probable que hayáis terminado ya vuestras 60 aplicaciones. Los demás os habéis ido incorporando a lo largo de estos meses muchos otros os vais a ir uniendo a partir de ahora. Por que, ya no habrá nuevos posts pero en nuestro grupo de facebook seguimos dando el follón con nuestras colchas, contándonos nuestros avances y subiendo fotos del proceso.

Ha sido un verdadero placer, he disfrutado muchísimo diseñando la manta, preparando los posts, viendo vuestras reacciones, y sobre todo viendo vuestros trabajos  y pensando en todas las mantas nuevas que habrá dentro de poco en el mundo. Y, ahora disfruto muchísimo debajo de mi manta y preparando nuevos proyectos que ya iré publicando por aquí y en los que espero me acompañéis.

You'll find thousands and thousands of crochet edges on the internet, just choose the one you like the most. I've chosen this one because, once again, I was looking for contrast, and since the blanket is very geometrical and modern, I wanted a white and "laced" edge. This one is just a mix of several edges that I like, and I was especially inspired by this one by Cypres Textiles, not exactly the same but very similar. 

st1 round: Join white, chain 1 and make a single crochet (sc) round (28 sc in for every square more or less), making 3 sc in every corner. Join with a slip stitch (sl).

2nd round: Chain 2 that count as a half double crochet (hdc), make a hdc in each sc. Make 2 hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc in every corner. Join with sl st.

3rd round: Chain 3, count as a double crochet (dc), make a dc in each hdc. Make 2 dc, chain 1, 2 dc in every corner. Join with a sl st.

4th round: Chain 4, count as a dc and a chain.*Skip 1 dc and make a dc in the next one. Chain 1 and repeat from * till the end. In each corner: (1 dc, chain 1) 4 times. Join with sl st.

Hay cientos y miles de puntillas diferentes, de lo más sencillo a lo más recargado. En este caso yo he puesto una bastante recargada ya que estaba buscando, como siempre, un buen contraste. la manta es de formas geométricas, formas y colores muy modernos y por ello quería que la puntilla le diera un toque más clásico, casi de encaje. Por eso he escogido esta, que es una mezcla de distintas puntillas que me gustan, especialmente este que encontré en Cypres Textiles; no es exactamente el mismo, pero es super parecido.

1ª vuelta (vta.): Une el blanco, haz una cadeneta y teje una fila de puntos bajos (pb) alrededor de toda la colcha, (unos 28 pb por granny, aproximadamente), haciendo 3 pb en cada esquina. Cierra con punto raso (pr).

2ª vta: dos cadenetas (cad) que equivalen a un punto medio alto (pma), haz un pma en cada pb. En el pb central de las esquinas de la vuelta anterior teje 2 pma, 1 cad y 2 pma. Cierra con pr.

3ª vta.: 3 cad que equivalen a 1 punto alto (pa), haz un pa en cada pma de la vta anterior. En el espacio de cad de las esquinas de la vta anterior teje 2 pa, 1 cad y 2pa. Cierra con pr.

4ª vta.: 4 cad que equivalen a un pa y 1 cad. *Salta un pa de la vta anterior y teje un pa en el siguiente, haz una cad y repite desde * hasta el final de la vta. En el espacio de 1 cad de la esquina de la vta anterior haz: (1 pa 1 cad) x 4. Cierra con un pr. 

5th round: sc in next chain space, * chain 3, sc in next chain space, repeat from * till the end. Join with sl st.

6th round: *sc in next 3 chains space, chain 1, sc in next 3 chains space, 5 triple crochet (tc) with picot in next 3 chains space, sc in next 3 chains space, chain 1, repeat from * to the end. Join with sl st. In the corner, try to fit one group of 5 tc. If it doesn't match make more or less 1 sc-1 chain, until you get to fit 1 group on the corner. 

5ª vta.: pb en el siguiente espacio de una cad, *3 cad, pb en el siguiente espacio de una cad, repetir desde * hasta el final, cerrar con pr.

6ª vta.: *pb en el siguiente espacio de 3 cad, 1 cad, pb en el siguiente espacio de 3 cad, 5 puntos altos dobles con picot en el siguiente espacio de 3 cad, pb en el siguiente espacio de 3 cad,  1 cad, repetir desde * hasta el final. Cerrar con pr. Intenta que te encaje un grupo de 5 pad y picot en el espacio de cadeneta central de la esquina, si no coincide naturalmente, fuérzalo tú, saltándote algún espacio de 3 cad, o haciendo algún pb con cadeneta más.  

TRIPLE CROCHET WITH PICOT / PUNTO ALTO DOBLE CON PICOT

How to make the triple crochet stitch: yarn over 2 times, insert the hook and pull a loop. Now you have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull up a loop through the 2 first loops. Now you have 3 loops, yarn over and pull up a loop through the next 2 loops. Repeat again with the 2 remaining loops.

El punto alto doble se realiza igual que el punto alto pero echando hebra dos veces antes de insertar la aguja, Es decir, coge hebra dos veces, inserta la aguja en el punto especificado, coge hebra, y sácala. Ahora tienes 4 lazadas en el gancho. Coge hebra y sácala por las dos primeras lazadas, ahora te quedan 3 lazadas. Coge hebra y sácala por las dos primeras lazadas, te quedan dos lazadas. Coge hebra y sácala por las dos lazadas que te quedan.

How to make the picot stitch: Chain 3, insert the hook in the 3rd chain from hook. Yarn over and pull a loop through all the loops you have on your hook (slip stitch) 

Cómo se hace el punto de picot: haz 3 cadenetas e inserta el gancho en la tercera cadeneta desde el gancho (queda un poco a la derecha, es como ir hacia atrás), coge hebra y sácala por todo lo que tienes en el gancho a la vez (punto raso).

Knitting for hope and Crochet Workshop!

La Manta de la Vida, (The Blanket of Life) is an initiative that started in Spain one moth ago with the purpose of knitting blankets and send them to Syria. Now there're thousands of people knitting blankets all over the world. This blankets are going to en sent to APPS, a spanish-syrian NGO with is collecting winter clothes, medicins, etc, and they are going to send them to Syria the next 19th of October.

How can you help if you're in Amsterdam? 

You can knit or crochet a whole blanket, for children or adult, or 50x50cm squares that we'll join later.  Join us on our meetings on the 4th and the 11th of October, bring your works and knit with us!

We'll also host a CROCHET WORKSHOP where you'll learn the crochet first steps.

You have to bring your own materials (your chosen hooks or needles and yarns, for those who are coming to knit the blaket with us, and if you're attending to the workshop: a 5mm or more crochet hook and a yarn suitable for your hook.)
Although the event is free, money contributions are appreciated in order to send all the blankets to APPS.

If you know another NGO that is sending things to Syria, please let us know and we'll contact them.

La Manta de la Vida (The Blanket of Live) is an initiative that began in Spain a few days ago, in order to get together as many knitters and crocheters as possible, and make blankets to send to Syria. In 2 days there were already 2000 people crocheting blankets and the number of volunteers is increasing day by day, and even spreading the initiative to other countries.

If you're in The Netherlands and you'd like to participate, please contact me in deestraperlo@hotmail.com or join our facebook group. 

You can make your own blanket or crochet 50 x 50cm pieces that we can join later, or participate in the crochet workshop we're organizing.

We're looking for a NGO that can help us with our blankets. If you know any dutch NGO that works with Syria, please let us know. Otherwise we'll have to send them to Spain, so they can send them to Syria, which would be a waste of money and time.

Si eres tejedora seguro que llevas ya unos días oyendo hablar de La Manta de la Vida. La redes sociales e incluso los medios de comunicación se están haciendo eco de esta idea solidaria. Lucía de Aguirre, Clara Montagut y Marta Blanco pusieron en marcha esta iniciativa que consiste en conectar al mayor número de tejedor@s posible y entre todos tejer mantas para enviar a Siria. 

Para ello crearon un grupo en facebook, contactaron con AAPS (Asociación de Apoyo al Pueblo Sirio), montaron la infraestructura y a partir de ahí dejaron que el proyecto volara por si solo y creciese de forma autónoma. Los miembros del grupo de facebook aumentan a una velocidad vertiginosa, con gente de todas partes del mundo organizando a su vez subgrupos regionales, por barrios e incluso en otros países.

Puedes hacer tu manta individualmente o puedes unirte al grupo de zona que te corresponda y participar en las quedadas, o tejer piezas de 50 x 50cm que después se unirán a otras. 

Ya sabéis que a mi no hay que pincharme mucho para ponerme a tejer una manta, y más aún si es por este motivo, así que al día siguiente de verlo me puse a tejer. Al principio pensé que con el tiempo y el dinero que lleva tejer una colcha, mejor sería comprar mantas directamente. Después pensé que... se pueden hacer las dos cosas! Y que una colcha hecha a mano tiene un poder especial, tiene la capacidad de transmitir cariño. Una manta hecha a mano tiene un mensaje y te recuerda que alguien ha estado pensando en ti durante muchas horas. A alguien en algún lugar del mundo le importas y se preocupa por ti. Y quizá cuando lo has perdido todo, esta idea puede consolar, aunque sea un poco.

En Amsterdam hemos creado también nuestro grupo en facebook y estamos organizándonos. Aún estamos buscando una ONG que haga viajes o envíos a Siria y quiera llevar nuestras mantas. Si no, las enviaremos a España para que salgan junto a las otras en el envío del día 19 de octubre.

Yo estoy tejiendo una colcha individual, hay gente ya tejiendo piezas de 50x50 y estamos planeando también una quedada para tejer alguna colcha entre todas.

Muchas me estáis preguntando por los patrones de las aplicaciones que estoy usando en mi colcha. He elegido estas dos porque son tupidas, sin  mucho agujero, son muy rápidas de tejer, son vistosas a la vez que sencillas y permiten variar el color a voluntad y de una forma muy fácil sin tener que rematar demasiado.

Los patrones están disponibles en el Proyecto Colcha 2.0, pinchad en las fotos y accederéis a ellos. Cuando termine la colcha os pondré un tutorial con más detalles, pero mientras tanto no hay que perder el tiempo y se puede empezar a tejer!

Para las que os van más las dos agujas, ahí os dejo un super tutorial que ha preparado Pearlknitter especial para la ocasión. Una manta preciosísima y con una pinta de calentita... mmm.....

WEEK 13

Yes guys, the rumours are true! This is the last granny for our Blanket Project! It's been hard sometimes but there you're, your 60 crochet squares waitig for you to join them. Aren't you proud? Some of you have already finished, others are just beginning or waiting for the cold to start... In next tutorials we'll see how to join the squares and how to crochet the edge.

This square is very simple. You just have to know how to make the single crochet stitch and the bubble stitch. I've named it "Diamonds and pearls" after Prince's song, because the bubbles form diamonds, so...

Que si, que si, que hoy es ya la última aplicación! No veis como al final todo llega... parece imposible, pero no lo es. Hemos pasado momentos más duros, momentos más dulces, pero ahí tenéis vuestras 60 aplicaciones. Algunos de vosotros ya vais a terminar la colcha, otros vais por la mitad, otras la vais a empezar ahora que empieza a hacer fresquito... En los siguientes tutoriales veremos cómo unir los cuadrados y cómo tejer la puntilla.

Esta aplicación es, de nuevo, una bien sencilla, pero entretenida, ya que es de punto bajo, y sabéis que normalmente las aplicaciones en punto bajo tardan más en trabajarse. (Pero hacen que la manta sea más consistente y abrigue más!) Combinaremos el punto bajo con el punto piña, que tanto os gusta. La he llamado "Diamonds and Pearls", como la canción de Prince, ya que las bolitas de las piñas forman rombos: bolitas y rombos, perlas y diamantes...

Foundation row: Chain 29

1st row: 28 single crochet (sc) (Don't forget that when working in single crochet you have to chain 1 at the begining of each new row!)

2nd row: 11 sc, *bubble stitch (bs), sc, repeat from * 3 times, 9 sc

3rd row: 28 sc

4th row: 12 sc, *bubble stitch (bs), sc, repeat from * 2 times, 10 sc

5th row: 28 sc

6th row: 13 sc, *bubble stitch (bs), sc, repeat from *, 11 sc

7th row: 28 sc

8th row: 14 sc, *bubble stitch (bs), 13 sc

9th row: 28 sc

A partir de aquí repetir desde la 3ª fila hasta conseguir un cuadrado.

HOW TO CROCHET THE BUBBLE STITCH / CÓMO TEJER PIÑAS

We'll start our bubble with a yarn over (yo) like in a double crochet (dc).  *yo and insert the hook in next stitch (st), pull up a loop. Now you have 3 loops on the hook (see first picture), yo and pull through the 2 first loops. Repeat from * 4 more times until you have 6 loops on your hook (see 2nd picture). Yo and pull through the 6 of them (3rd picture). Now chain 1 and keep following the pattern. 

Now make one in neon pink, one in turquoise, one in white and one in salmon.

Empezamos nuestra piña cogiendo hebra como si fuésemos a realizar un punto alto (pa). *Cogemos hebra e insertamos el gancho en el punto especificado. Cogemos hebra y sacamos la aguja. Ahora tenemos 3 lazadas en el gancho (ver la primera imagen). Cogemos hebra de nuevo y la sacamos por las dos primeras lazadas. Repetimos desde * 4 veces más hasta que tengamos 6 lazadas en el gancho. Cogemos hebra y la sacamos por las 6 lazadas de golpe (ver tercera foto). Ahora hacemos una cadeneta  y seguimos avanzando normalmente con el patrón. 

Ahora teje uno en rosa neón, en turquesa, en blanco y en salmón.

WEEK 12

Only one square to go, guys! I've already finished my blanket and I'm working on the "joining and edging" posts . I have to confess that I've already used my blanket for a little nap on the sofa, and .... it works! It's the best nap-on-the-sofa-blanket ever!

Today's technique is tapestry crochet. It's quite easy and consists on working with two or more colours at the same time, creating shapes and drawings, by carrying the thread that you're not using inside the stitches. Our pattern ir very simple, a checkboard pattern combining 2 colours. I've named it "Racing Flag" because it reminds me of the car racing flags.

Llegamos ya a la penúltima de nuestras aplicaciones. Yo ya he terminado mi colcha y estoy preparando los posts para enseñaros a unir los cuadrados y para hacer la puntilla. Y tengo que confesaros una cosa.... ya la he estrenado con una maravillosa siesta en el sofá... y funciona! Es la mejor colcha para siestas en el sofá que he probado nunca!

Hoy vamos a ver una de las técnicas que más me pedís, el tapestry crochet. Es muy sencilla, y consiste en la alternancia de colores formando formas o dibujos, manteniendo el hilo que no estás usando envuelto, con puntos bajos, por el que estás usando. He escogido un dibujo simple, en forma de damero, que combina cuadrados de dos colores. Le he llamado "Racing Flag" ya que me recuerda a las banderas de las carreras de coches.

First thing to know about tapestry crochet is how to change colour: You should close the last stitch always with the new colour. That's to say, as you can see in the picture, if you're working with the pink thread, close the last stitch with the brown thread, and then keep working with brown.

Lo primero que debes saber cuando trabajas tapestry crochet es el cambio de color. El cambio se realiza antes de cerrar el último punto del color anterior. Como ves en la foto, estábamos trabajando en rosa, y el cuarto y último punto lo cerramos con el siguiente color con el que queremos trabajar, en este caso el marrón.

Tapestry crochet is always worked with two or more colours, but instead of fasten them off each time you change, you have to keep carrying them, hidden inside the single stitches. Even when you change rows.

En tapestry crochet siempre trabajarás con 2 o más hilos a la vez, pero en vez de ir cortando los que no usas, los vas arrastrando, envueltos por los puntos bajos que realizas con el hilo en el que estás trabajando en ese momento. En la primera foto pasamos de trabajar con el rosa a trabajar con el marrón, pero mantenemos el rosa envuelto con los puntos bajos marrones. 

En la segunda foto vemos como empezamos una nueva fila, en la que seguimos trabajando en marrón y escondiendo el rosa que arrastramos ya escondido desde la fila previa.

Foundation row: With brown, chain 29

1st row: 4 single crochet (sc) in brown, 4 sc in pink, 4 sc in brown, 4 sc in pink, 4 sc in brown, 4 sc in pink, 4 sc in brown. (28 sc)

2nd to 4th row: Repeat 1st row.

5th row: 4 sc in pink, 4 sc in brown, 4 sc in pink, 4 sc in brown, 4 sc in pink, 4 sc in brown, 4 sc in pink.

6th to 8th row: repeat 5th row.

Keep repeating from 1st row until you have a square. I needed 32 rows, you may need more or less

Cadeneta base: Con marrón, 29 cadenetas

1ª fila: 4 puntos bajos (pb) en marrón, 4 pb en rosa, 4 pb en marrón, 4 pb en rosa, 4 pb en marrón, 4 pb en rosa, 4 pb en marrón. (28 pb)

Filas 2 a 4: Repetir fila 1

Fila 5: 4 pb en rosa, 4 pb en marrón, 4 pb en rosa, 4 pb en marrón, 4 pb en rosa, 4 pb en marrón, 4 pb en rosa.

Filas 6 a 8: Repetir fila 5

Repetir desde la fila 1 hasta que consigas un cuadrado. En mi caso fue hasta la fila 32, pero puede que en tu caso necesites más o menos.

Now make one in salmon and blue, another one in yellow and brown and the last one in turquoise and red.

Ahora haz uno en salmón y azul, otro en amarillo y marrón y uno más en turquesa y rojo:

WEEK 11

Only 3 crochet squares left to finish our blanket... last week was an easy one. I wanted you to rest because this last 3 weeks are going to be a bit more ..., how to say it... hardcore. Don't panic, you'll make it, it's just the final sprint. 

You're going to love today's stitch. It's called Basket Weave, because it combines front post and back post double crochet stitches creating a weave effect. 

La última semana de Proyecto Colcha 2.0 fue tranquilita. Os dejé descansar un poco con una aplicación de esas que se hacen casi solas, porque las 3 aplicaciones que nos faltan para terminar la manta son más duras y necesitáis coger fuerzas para el sprint final. 

El punto de hoy os va a encantar. Es un entramado de puntos altos cogidos por delante y por detrás (ojo, no confundir con trabajar por delante o detrás de la lazada o  back loop!), creando un efecto que recuerda a un cesto, y es por eso que se llama "Basket Weave", que vendría a significar urdimbre. Esta vez no me he inventado yo ningún nombre porque el que tiene de por si ya me parece perfecto.

Foundation row: Chain (ch) 30

1st row: Double crochet (dc) in the 4th ch from the hook. Dc in the next 27 stitches (st) (28 dc in all, because the first 3 ch count as a dc)

2nd row: Ch 3 (remember that when working in dc rows we always have to start with 3 ch that count as a dc) From now on we're going to alternate front post and back post dc. I'll show you how to make them below. Now, front post dc (fp dc) in the next 3 st, back post dc (bp dc) in the next 4, alternate fp dc and fp dc every 4 stitches. You'll have 28 dc in all, 16 of them will be fp post and 12 bp dc

Cadeneta base: 30 cadenetas (cad)

1ª fila: punto alto (pa) en la 4ª cad desde el gancho. Punto alto en las siguientes 27 cad. (28 pa en total, ya que las 3 primeras cad que te has saltado cuentan como uno)

2ª fila: 3 cad (recuerda que al trabajar en filas de pa siempre debemos empezar con 3 cad, que equivalen a un pa) A partir de ahora vamos a alternar los pa cogidos por delante y por detrás del punto. Más abajo te enseñaré cómo hacerlo. Ahora teje los 3 siguientes pa por delante del punto, los 4 siguientes por detrás, y ve alternando cada 4 puntos. En total tendrás 28 pa, 16 de ellos tejidos por delante y 12 cogidos por detrás. 

3rd row: Ch 3, 3 bp dc, *4 fp dc, 4 bp dc, repeat from * twice.

4th row: ch 3, 3 fp dc, *4 bp dc, 4 fp dc, repeat from * twice.

5th row: ch 3, 3 fp dc, *4 bp dc, 4 fp dc, repeat from * twice.

3ª fila: 3 cad, 3 pa cogidos por detrás, *4 pa cogidos por delante, 4 pa cogidos por detrás, repetir desde * dos veces.

4ª fila: 3 cad, 3 pa cogidos por delante, *4 pa cogidos por detrás, 4 pa cogidos por delante, repetir desde * dos veces. 

5ª fila: 3 cad, 3 pa cogidos por delante, *4 pa cogidos por detrás, 4 pa cogidos por delante, repetir desde * dos veces. 

6th row: Ch 3, 3 bp dc, *4 fp dc, 4 bp dc, repeat from * twice.

7th row: ch 3, 3 fp dc, *4 bp dc, 4 fp dc, repeat from * twice.

8th row: Ch 3, 3 bp dc, *4 fp dc, 4 bp dc, repeat from * twice.

9th row: Ch 3, 3 bp dc, *4 fp dc, 4 bp dc, repeat from * twice.

Repeat from 2nd row and follow the pattern until you have 20 rows.

6ª fila: 3 cad, 3 pa cogidos por detrás, *4 pa cogidos por delante, 4 pa cogidos por detrás, repetir desde * dos veces.

7ª fila: 3 cad, 3 pa cogidos por delante, *4 pa cogidos por detrás, 4 pa cogidos por delante, repetir desde * dos veces. 

8ª fila: 3 cad, 3 pa cogidos por detrás, *4 pa cogidos por delante, 4 pa cogidos por detrás, repetir desde * dos veces.

Repetir desde la 2ª fila, sigue el mismo esquema hasta que tengas 20 filas.

HOW TO MAKE A FRONT POST STITCH DOUBLE CROCHET 

CÓMO TEJER PUNTO ALTO COGIDO POR DELANTE

Yarn over, with the hook in front of your work, insert it from right to left around the stitch post, (not in the loop as you would usually do). Finish the stitch as a regular double crochet stitch.

Coge hebra.Con el gancho por delante del trabajo,  insértalo de derecha a izquierda rodeando la columna del punto (no en la lazada como harías normalmente). Termina el punto como un punto alto normal.

HOW TO MAKE A BACK POST STITCH DOUBLE CROCHET 

CÓMO TEJER PUNTO ALTO COGIDO POR DETRÁS

Do the same than in the front post but with your hook in the back side of your work. Yarn over, insert the hook from the back side, from right to left, and work a regular dc.

Es básicamente lo mismo pero introduciendo el gancho desde la parte trasera de la labor. Coge hebra, introduce el gancho, por detrás, de derecha a izquierda rodeando la columna del punto, y haz un punto alto normal.

Now make 3 in light grey and 3 in dark grey.

Ahora teje 3 en gris clarito y otras 3 en gris oscuro.

What I have today for you is one of those squares that you love because they're easy and quick. I try to alternate the harder ones and the lighter ones, but anyway... at the end of the day we have to make them all! 

We're going to crochet a square in rounds. Wait, what? Yes, we're crocheting in rounds but creating 4 corners in order to create a square, like we do to crochet the traditional Granny square, or other squares we've seen here. I've named this square "Maritime Code" after the flags they use in the ships that represent the alphabet or some sort messages. They remind mi specifically to the ones they use that represent P and S.

Hoy os traigo una de estas aplicaciones que os gustan porque son fáciles y muy rápidas de hacer. Intento intercalar las más pesadas de realizar con las más ligeritas, pero vamos... que al final hay que hacerlas todas! 

Vamos a hacer un cuadrado pero trabajando en redondo, cómo es eso? Pues formando 4 esquinas, tal y como se hace en los tradicionales Granny Square y en algunas de las aplicaciones que ya hemos visto aquí. He llamado esta aplicación "Maritime Code" ya que me recuerda a las banderas que se usan en los barcos para representar las letras del alfabeto o transmitir mensajes. En concreto me recuerdan a las que se usan para las letras P (papa) y S (Sierra). 

1st round (rd): With blue and in a magic ring, chain 3 (count as a double crochet), 2 double crochet (dc), * ch 3, 3 dc, repeat from * twice, ch 3, join with slip stitch (sl st)

2nd rd: ch 3, dc in the next 2 stitches (st), corner ( in the next 3 ch space work 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in), * dc in the next 3 st, corner, repeat from * twice, join with a sl st.

3rd rd: ch 3, dc in the next 4 stitches (st), corner  * dc in the next 7 st, corner, repeat from * twice, dc in the next 2 st, join with a sl st.

4th rd: ch 3, dc in the next 6 stitches (st), corner  * dc in the next 11 st, corner, repeat from * twice, dc in the next 4 st, join with a sl st.

1ª vuelta (vta): Con azul y en círculo mágico, 3 cadenetas (equivalen a un punto alto), dos puntos altos (pa), *3 cadenetas (cad), 3 pa, repetir desde * 2 veces, 3 cad, unir con punto raso (pr)

2ª vta.: 3 cad, pa en los dos siguientes puntos,  esquina (en el siguiente espacio de 3 cad trabajar 2 pa, 3 cad, 2 pa), *pa en los siguientes 3 puntos, esquina, repetir desde * dos veces, cerrar con pr.

3ª vta.: 3 cad, pa en los 4 siguientes puntos, esquina, *pa en los siguientes 7 puntos, esquina, repetir desde * dos veces, pa en los siguientes 2 puntos, cerrar con pr.

4ª vta.: 3 cad, pa en los 6 siguientes puntos, esquina, *pa en los siguientes 11 puntos, esquina, repetir desde * dos veces, pa en los siguientes 4 puntos, cerrar con pr.

5th rd: ch 3, dc in the next 8 stitches (st), corner  * dc in the next 15 st, corner, repeat from * twice, dc in the next 6 st, join with a sl st.

6th rd: ch 3, dc in the next 10 stitches (st), corner  * dc in the next 19 st, corner, repeat from * twice, dc in the next 8 st, join with a sl st.

7th rd: ch 3, dc in the next 12 stitches (st), corner  * dc in the next 21 st, corner, repeat from * twice, dc in the next 10 st, join with a sl st.

Now make 3 more squares, one in neon pink and yellow, one in black and salmon and the last one in red and white.

5ª vta.: Con turquesa, 3 cad, pa en los 8 siguientes puntos, esquina, *pa en los siguientes 15 puntos, esquina, repetir desde * dos veces, pa en los siguientes 6 puntos, cerrar con pr.

6ª vta.: 3 cad, pa en los 10 siguientes puntos, esquina, *pa en los siguientes 19 puntos, esquina, repetir desde * dos veces, pa en los siguientes 8 puntos, cerrar con pr.

7ª vta.: 3 cad, pa en los 12 siguientes puntos, esquina, *pa en los siguientes 23 puntos, esquina, repetir desde * dos veces, pa en los siguientes 10 puntos, cerrar con pr.

Ahora teje otro en rosa fluorescente y amarillo, otro en salmón y negro y otro en blanco y rojo.

WEEK 9

I'm so thrilled! I've already started joining my crochet squares and I can see clearly how the blanket is going to look when finished and... I love it! It's becoming almost as I imagined it. We're almost there my dear friends, 5 more squares, joining them, a cute edge and... c'est fini!

Today's crochet square is one of the most succesfull in my lessons. My students always ask me for  "the one with the colored little balls, the one with the colored little balls!!!" Actually it's very nice but, watch out, as every single crochet square, it takes its time. I've named it "Arriquitaun" (wich is a word used in Andalusia to express cheerful mode) because it reminds me a flamenco dancer suit.

Estoy muy emocionada. Ya he empezado a unir mis aplicaciones y ya puedo ver claramente cómo va a quedar la manta y... me encanta! Está quedando tal y como la había imaginado en mis bocetos. Ya nos queda muy poco amigos, 5 aplicaciones más, unirlas, un bordecito mono, y c'est fini! 

La aplicación que vamos a ver hoy es una de las que más éxito tienen. Mis alumnas siempre me piden "la de las bolitas de colores, la de las bolitas de colores!!!" La verdad es que es muy bonita, pero ojo, como toda aplicación de punto bajo es entretenida y lleva su tiempo. La he llamado Arriquitaun porque la veo muy flamenca, a que si?

Foundation row: With turquoise, chain (ch) 29 

1st and 2nd row: 28 single crochet (sc), ch 1 (remember that when we are working in single corchet rows, we have to ch 1 before starting a new row)

3rd row: 3 sc, with red *bubble in next sc, with turquoise 5 sc, repeat from * twice, with red bubble in next sc, with turquoise 6 sc.

4th to 6th row: 28 sc, ch 1

7th row: 6 sc, with red *bubble in next sc, with turquoise 5 sc, repeat from * twice, with red bubble in next sc, with turquoise 3 sc.

8th to 10th rows: 28 sc, ch 1

Cadeneta base: Con turquesa, 29 cadenetas (cad)

1ª y 2ª filas: 28 puntos bajos (pb), una cad (recuerda que cuando trabajamos en filas de punto bajo debemos tejer un punto de cadeneta siempre antes de empezar una nueva fila.)

3ª fila: 3 pb, con rojo *piña en el pb siguiente, con turquesa 5 pb, repetir desde * 2 veces, con rojo piña en el pb siguiente, con turquesa 6 pb.

4ª a 6ª filas: 28 pb, 1 cad

7ª fila: 6 pb, con rojo,*piña en el pb siguiente, con turquesa 5 pb, repetir desde * 2 veces, con rojo piña en el pb siguiente, con turquesa 3 pb.

8ª a 10ª filas: 28 pb, 1 cad

Repeat from 3rd row till you have a square. Try to finish with any of the sc rows instead of one of the bubble stitch rows. It took me 9 bubble stitch rows , and I finished with 2 sc rows.

A partir de aquí repetir desde la fila 3 hasta conseguir un cuadrado. Intenta terminar con alguna de las filas de pb mejor que con una de piñas. En mi caso he llegado a las 9 filas de piñas y he finalizado con dos filas de pb.

I can see now that you're getting nervous because you don't know ...

Tranqui, que ya veo que te estás poniendo nerviosa porque no sabes...

HOW TO CROCHET THE BUBBLE STITCH / CÓMO TEJER PIÑAS 

We'll start our bubble with a yarn over (yo) like in a double crochet (dc). We're crocheting a bubble in a different colour from the base colour (turquoise), so *yo with the new colour (red), insert the hook in next stitch (st), pull up a loop. Now you have 3 loops on the hook, one turquoise and two red (see first picture), yo and pull through the 2 red loops. Repeat from * 4 more times until you have 6 loops on your hook, 1 turquoise and 5 red (see 2nd picture). Yo and pull through the 6 of them (3rd picture). Now change to turquoise, chain 1 and keep following the pattern. Don't cut the red thread, keep crocheting your sc in turquoise but carrying the red inside the stitches, like in the tapestry crochet (Picture 4).

Empezamos nuestra piña cogiendo hebra como si fuésemos a realizar un punto alto (pa). En este caso, al tratarse de una piña de un color distinto al color base (turquesa), *cogemos la hebra del color nuevo (rojo). Insertamos el gancho en el punto especificado. Cogemos hebra y sacamos la aguja. Ahora tenemos 3 lazadas en el gancho, una turquesa y dos rojas (ver la primera imagen). Cogemos hebra de nuevo y la sacamos por las dos primeras lazadas, las rojas. Repetimos desde * 4 veces más hasta que tengamos 6 lazadas en el gancho, 1 turquesa y 5 rojas. Cogemos hebra y la sacamos por las 6 lazadas de golpe (ver tercera foto). Ahora hacemos una cadeneta con el turquesa y seguimos avanzando normalmente con el patrón. No cortes el hilo rojo, sigue tejiendo tus puntos bajos en turquesa, pero envolviendo el hilo rojo, como en el tapestry crochet (ver cuarta foto).

Be careful with  the row following to the bubbles one because you've kind of added a new stitch after each bubble by the "ch 1 " step, so in order to avoid that, work just one of the 2 stitches you'll find on top of the bubble. As you can see in the picture, skip the red and work the turquoise. And always count the stitches!

Now work 3 more squares, one in black and white, one in red and white and one in blue and salmon.

Ten cuidado con la vuelta siguiente a una vuelta con piñas, ya que al hacer una cadeneta cada vez que cerramos una piña puedes confundirte y añadir puntos de más. Para que esto no pase, trabaja sólo uno de los dos puntos que caen sobre la piña. Como ves en la imagen, salta el rojo y trabaja el turquesa. Y cuenta siempre los puntos!

Ahora haz 3 aplicaciones más, una en blanco y negro, otra en rojo y blanco y otra en azul y salmón.
