Crocheting a new year

The 31st of December and your birthday are magic days. Both days are like and end and a beginning of something, days of meditation and review. On your birthday it's just you who feel this energy but on the 31st of December millions of people get to share similar feelings. You can feel it in the air. The end of the year, the beginning of a new adventure...

El día 31 de diciembre es uno de esos días mágicos, como el día de tu cumpleaños. Ambos días se presentan como un principio y un fin, un momento de balance y reflexión. Pero, así como el día de tu cumpleaños es más íntimo y sólo tú sientes esa energía, el día 31 de diciembre millones de personas de todo el mundo compartimos sentimientos parecidos. Se respira en el aire. El año se acaba. Empieza la nueva aventura.

The New Year's Eve comes with a feeling of hope. For those who had a bad year it's a release, it's finished and a new opportunity can grow; on the other hand, if you had a good year it's a renewal, new energies to start again, even stronger. A fresh start, new year's resolutions. Positive messages surround us, and this is something good from time to time.

El cambio de año viene acompañado de una sensación de esperanza. Para los que han tenido un mal año es una liberación, por fin se acaba este año maldito y nace una nueva oportunidad; si has tenido un buen año es una renovación de energía y ganas de empezar con más fuerza aún. Borrón y cuenta nueva, listas de propósitos para el nuevo año. Los mensajes positivos nos rodean, y viene muy bien de vez en cuando.

I had a good year. I bid farewell to 2015 very grateful and looking forward to go on and I welcome 2016 with strength to get over the things that went wrong. So, I'd like to take this moment of massive meditations and reviews to thank you. Most of the great moments of the year happened because of you. Your support, your interest on my work following my blog, buying my patterns, participating on the CALs... This is really moving and makes me feel very, very happy. THANK YOU!

Yo he tenido un buen año. Me despido del 2015 muy agradecida y con ganas de avanzar y recibo al 2016 con fuerzas para superar las cosas que han ido mal. Así que aprovechando este momento de balances y reflexiones multitudinarias, os doy las gracias. Las mayores alegrías de este año han sido gracias a todos vosotros. Todos los que os habéis interesado por mi trabajo, siguiendo el blog, participando en los CAL, comprando mis patrones, escribiéndome mensajes... Es realmente emocionante y me siento muy feliz. De Estraperlo on: Up&Up

Lucía Zapata is out of this world. She's from a world full of superheroes and pin-up girls, between the 40's and the 70's. You'll be lucky if you find her on your path. She travels around the world collecting unique places and people, and she stores them on all sort of projects, blogs and videos. Her last project, Up&Up brought her to Amsterdam and there we had the chance to meet each other.

Lucía Zapata es de otro mundo. Un mundo de superhéroes y pin ups, de algún momento entre los años 40 y 70. Es una fuera de serie de estas que de vez en cuando se cruza en tu camino, por suerte... Lucía viaja por el mundo coleccionando sitios y personas únicas y los almacena en proyectos, vídeos y blogs. Su último proyecto Up&Up la trajo a Amsterdam el pasado verano y ahí tuvimos la suerte de coincidir.



She doesn't see the same things that we see when we travel. While we see cathedrals, bridges and museums, she sees decadent amusement parks, abandoned industrial plants and all kind of locations that could perfectly belong to a superheroes movies from the 70's.

Ella no ve las mismas cosas que los demás en sus viajes. Mientras los demás vemos iglesias, puentes y museos, ella ve parques de atracciones en decadencia, naves industriales abandonadas y todo tipo de localizaciones dignas de una peli de superhéroes de los años 70.



This is my video. I spent the day so nervous and excited.... cleaning the house once and again. I hope you like it, every time I watch it I feel so embarrassed I think I could die, though... I can't help it...

Decorating the tree with Conchita

It's Christmas, finally. This is Conchita's favorite time of the year. She's been making herself the Christmas presents, for months. You could say that Conchita likes traditions, and specially... decorating the tree. This year she's invited Minus and Pickles to help her (not sure this is a good idea...) and have a big cookie party after the hard work. 

Por fin es Navidad. Es el momento favorito del año para Conchita. Pasa meses preparando regalos que confecciona ella misma y buscando nuevas recetas. Se podría decir que a Conchita le gustan las tradiciones y la que más... decorar el árbol. Este año ha invitado a Minus y Pickles para que le ayuden  (no se yo si esa es muy buena idea, pero bueno...)  y ha preparado una gran merienda para después.

Didn't I tell you? Not a good idea at all! Every time Conchita puts something on the tree Pickles takes it and puts it on his head! And Minus, he's been eating cookies the whole time, he haven't even moved a finger to help Conchita... what a mess... "Minus, don't eat all the cookies!" "What, me?! I haven't eaten any..." "But Minus, you have one in your mouth right now!"

No veis como no era buena idea? Cada vez que Conchita pone algo en el árbol, Pickles lo quita y se lo pone en la cabeza! Pero es que Minus directamente se ha ido a comer galletas y no le está haciendo ningún caso al árbol... qué desastre... "Minus, no te las comas todas!" "Yo? No me he comido ninguna..." "Pero si tienes una en la boca!"

Well, looks like finally they made it! It hasn't been easy but it's done and the most important part is that they've had a lot of fun. "But Minus, you haven't moved a finger..." "That's not true, I've told you where to put the star!" "Come on, what a shameless you are, hahahaaaaa!"

Bueno, al final parece que lo han conseguido! Ha costado pero al final lo han hecho y lo más importante es que se han reído un montón. "Pero Minus, tú no has hecho nada..." "Eso no es verdad, yo os he dicho dónde teníais que poner la estrella!" "Halaaa, qué cara más dura tienes, jajajaaaa!"

After working so hard, it's presents time. Conchita has spent a lot of time knitting them and now she's very excited to see her friends reaction. She's crocheted a granny squares blanket for Minus and knitted a red Christmas jumper for Pickles.

Después del duro trabajo llega el momento de los regalos. Conchita ha pasado mucho tiempo tejiéndolos y está nerviosa por ver qué opinan sus amigos. Para Minus ha hecho una mantita de granny squares para sus siestas y para Pickles un jersey rojo muy navideño.

Minus and Pickles are so happy with their presents, they're already wearing them. Conchita is also wearing her Christmas jumper and now they're ready to devour all the cookies (if there's any left...)

Minus y Pickles están encantados con sus regalos y ya los han estrenado. Conchita también se ha puesto su jersey navideño y ahora ya están listos para merendar. Si Minus les ha dejado alguna galleta, claro...
