Marta's famous scarf

My friend Marta has the most cool scarf ever. She has had it for years and although she has lost it many times she always manages to get it back. I've always loved this scarf and always planned to make one for me, and finally I've found the perfect stitch. Marta's scarf is knitted, but I wanted to make a crocheted version, and I think that Camel Stitch is perfect.

I'm sure that you're already looking for easy and quick patterns to make your Christmas presents, well this is a perfect one. It's an easy peasy pattern, and you can make it in one or two days. What I also love about this scarf is the different possibilities that it has. You can use it as a cape, as a vest and of course... as a scarf.

CAMEL STITCH SCARF WITH COWL

You'll need:
300gr approx of a very soft bulky yarn.
Crochet hook indicated for your yarn. I used a 7mm hook.
Big tapestry needle.
Scissors

Materiales necesarios:
Aguja lanera grande.
Tijeras.

1. Make a chain as long as the distance between your chin and your knees. It was 102 chains to me, a little less than a meter.
2. Make a half double crochet (hdc) in the 3rd chain from hook. Make 1 hdc in each chain till the end.
3. Chain 2 (count as a hdc). Now we'll crochet a hdc in each stitch, but not IN the stitch, not in the BACK loop, FRONT loop, but on the THIRD loop. You'll see it painted in yellow in the picture, while the front and back loop are in blue.

4. Keep crocheting rows the same way, always starting with 2 chains, until you have 20 or 22 cm. cut and fasten off.
5. Make another piece exactly the same way.

5. Teje otra pieza exactamente igual.

6. Now that we have our two pieces, put them aside and sew them along 20 cm. Cut and fasten off.
7. Do the same with the other edge.

7. Haz lo mismo con el otro lado.

    1. Hi Bev! I'm so glad you like it! What do you mean exactly by strips? I guess you mean how wide is the scarf? Then is between 20 or 24 cm, depending on your taste. If you mean how wide is each row, then is about 1cm each. Sorry but my english is a bit poor, heheee

    1. Hi Marta, that means that the first thing that you do when starting the row is 2 chains (that would count as the first half double crochet), and then keep following the instructions.
When you're working in single crochet rows you always start the row with 1 chain, when you work half double crochet rows you start with 2 chains (that count as the first half double crochet stitch) when you work in double crochet rows you start with 3 chains (that count as the first double crochet stitch(, and so on. I hope this have been helpful!
