Proyecto Colcha 2.0, joining the squares

THE BLANKET PROJECT
(Crochet along)

WEEK 14

So, now you must have 60 blocked granny squares, piled up, waiting to be joined. This step is very exciting, but is also a bit scary and sometimes it can be boring too... But, listen, do you want your blanket? Then, there's no other way, you have to join your squares!!

There're several ways to join the squares, you'll choose one depending on what kind of granny squares are you joinning, the colour, your personal taste... In this blanket here, I've chosen the single crochet stitch joining in white. Why? Because each square is completely different, different colours, different techniques... and also, I want the join to be noticed.

This is the scheme I made when I finished all the squares. You can follow it or make your own, but it's good to have one in order to avoid putting 2 similar squares together. First we'll join columns, starting with the 2 on the left. Face 2 first squares, light grey "Bubble Wrap" and red and yellow "Pico Esquina" (front side out, back side in), and start joining with single crochet stitch in white.

Don't cut the yarn and do the same with the next 2 squares, the salmon "Puffed Rice" and the turquoise and neon pink "Meeting Point". Don't cut the yarn and do the same with the red and turquoise "Racing Flag" and the light grey "Basket Weave". Keep joining squres this way until you've joined all the squares in these 2 columns, cut the yarn. Now do the same with the 2nd and the 3rd column, that's to say the red and yellow "Pico Esquina" with the turquoise "Diamonds and Pearls", the turquoise and neon pink "Meeting Point" with the black and light grey "Tire Footprint", and so on. Do the same with all the columns, starting always from the same end, so all the joins will face to the same direction.

Once you've joined all the columns, do the ame with the rows. It's not always easy, it depends on the squares you're joining. Squares crocheted in circle are easier because it's very easy to identify the stitches in the 4 sides of the square, but squares crocheted in rows had 2 sides where stitches are not that easy to identify. My advice here is, when you're working these sides, make sure you have between 26 and 28 stitches per side, no more, no less.

Don't forget to weave in all the ends and get your blanket ready for.... THE EDGE!
