Romance at the park

Aaaahhh, el verano, los parques, el amor.... todos hemos tenido 15 años...

As you may know, it was the WW Knitting in Public Day a few weeks ago, and Conchita and I went to El Retiro to have a picnic with some other knitters. The event was organized by Knitting the Skyline and there I had the opportunity to meet Silvia from El Duende de los Hilos who by the way came with her sweet little friend Pérez. And... this is what happened...

Hace unas semanas fue el Día Mundial de Tejer en Público. Como os comenté aquí, Conchita y yo lo pasamos en el Retiro en una quedada que organizó Knitting the Skyline. Ahí conocí a Silvia, de El Duende de los Hilos, que se trajo a su amigo Pérez... Y ésto es lo que pasó...

Conchita found a nice spot to put her blanket and she started knitting. She's working on a Christmas jumper for her granny.

Conchita enseguida encontró un bonito rincón donde instalarse. Extendió su manta de grannies y se puso a tejer. Ahora está tejiendo un jersey para su abuela, quiere tenerlo terminado para Navidad.

And of course, she brought some cookies with her... one could think that all the "knitting in the park" thing is just an excuse to eat cookies in the park... Those cookies must smell very good because suddenly she realized that she wasn't alone... there was someone looking at her very carefully...

Como no podía ser de otra forma, se preparó una buena merienda con galletas y, debían de oler muy bien porque al cabo de un rato  se dio cuenta de que no estaba sola... había alguien a su lado, observando atentamente.

-"Oops! Hello, I hadn't seen you! Who are you?"
-"Hi... I'm Pérez... and you?"
-"I'm Conchita, would you like a cookie?"

-"Uy! Hola, no te había visto! Quién eres?"
-"Hola... soy Pérez... y tú?"
-"Yo soy Conchita, quieres una galleta?"

And, well... I'm not going to describe every single thing that happened that afternoon in the park, but I can tell you that it was all about whisperings and silly laughters, even cheesier than a "Dawson's Creek" chapter. But what can you do... this is what teen love is about!

Y... bueno, no os voy a dar más detalles de cómo fue la tarde, pero... en fin, risas, cuchicheos...  aquello parecía un episodio de "Dawson Crece"... más empalagoso y cursi no se puede ser. Y es que el amor adolescente es así. Ahhh, qué recuerdos...!

Actually Pérez is very cute, and Silvia is even cuter. Conchita has told me that he's seen him a couple of times after that day. Let's see how all this story ends! You know what they say... first love is the deepest! Do you remember your first love? I certainly do.

La verdad es que Pérez es bien majo y Silvia más maja aún. Conchita me ha dicho que desde entonces se han visto un par de veces... a ver cómo acaba ésto!! El primer amor es muy importante. Tú recuerdas cuál fue tu primer amor? Yo si.

When it was Minus' birthday and Scout ate all the cookies

It's been a year since I created Minus, started my online shop and organized the first CAL with Wasel Wasel... My amigurumi family has increased since then and we've had the chance to see them in many different situations and adventures. Easy and day-to-day adventures, but adventures after all.

Por fin llegó el cumpleaños de Minus! Estábamos todos esperando nerviosos... hace aproximadamente un año que lo creé, que lancé la tienda, que organicé el primer CAL con Wasel Wasel... Desde entonces se han ido incorporando nuevos miembros a mi familia de amigurumis y hemos tenido oportunidad de verles en acción en varias "aventuras". Aventuras sencillas, cotidianas, pero aventuras al fin y al cabo.

So, yesterday we organized a big party. Everybody was there! Minus and Scout were excited waiting for the others to come.

-"Minus, you hand me a cookie?" 

-"No Scout, we have to wait for our guests to come. You'll eat later." 

-"But it's not for me, it's for Banana!" 

-"Scout, fake bears don't eat real cookies"

-"What do you mean fake...?"

Así que ayer organizamos una gran fiesta para la ocasión. No faltó nadie! Minus y Scout esperaban nerviosos a los demás invitados. 

-"Minus, me das una galleta?" 

-"No Scout, tenemos que esperar a los demás, luego comerás." 

-"Pero si es que no es para mi, es para Banana" 

-"Scout, los osos de peluche no comen galletas..."

-"Cómo que de peluche...?"

Pickles and Karl arrived first. Pickles was so excited! He had this very special present that Minus was going to love and he couldn't wait... the last installment of "Pirates and Corsairs" by H.K. Franklin! Minus and Pickles are addicted to this saga of novels about Henry "the long", the most scary and bloodthirsty pirate of the Caribbean seas.

-"Minus, can I take a cookie now?"
-"No Scout, wait for the rest!"
-"Hmmmm"

Los primeros en llegar fueron Pickles y Karl. Qué contento estaba Pickles! Traía un regalo muy especial para Minus y estaba deseando dárselo... la última entrega de "Piratas y Corsarios" de H.K. Franklin!! Minus y Pickles están enganchadísimos a esta serie de novelas sobre Henry "El Largo", el pirata más temible y sanguinario de todo el Caribe.

-"Minus, puedo coger ya una galleta?"
-"No Scout, espérate a que estemos todos!"
-"Hmmmm"

Scout didn't like her brother's telling off at all and set herself aside the group. There she stayed for a while, in silence and the others were opening presents and talking about Henry The Long. But when Scout is quiet....

A Scout no le hizo ninguna gracia la reprimenda de su hermano y se apartó del grupo. Ahí se quedó un rato callada, mientras los demás abrían paquetes y hablaban de Henry "El Largo". Y cuando Scout está mucho rato callada....

-"Hey, Conchita is here!"

-"Good, and she's bringing the cakes!! Yay!"

-"Come Conchita, sit here and put your hat on!"

-"Ya está aquí Conchita!"

-"Bien, y trae los pasteles!! Yupiii!"

-"Conchita, ven, siéntate aquí y ponte tu gorro!"

-"Scout, now you ca..."

-"Wait a minute Minus, I think something is happening there..."

-"But... why are all the cookies on the floor?"

-"It wasn't me!"

-"Scout, ahora ya pued..."

-"Un momento Minus, creo que está pasando algo ahí..."

-"Pero... porqué están las galletas en el suelo?"

-"Yo no he sido!"

I told you... if Scout is quiet for a long time is because there's something in her mind... and not good... While everybody was talking and looking at Conchita's cake, she and Banana took good care of the cookies... She says that real bears don't like eating from plates, they like floor better.

Ya os dije que si Scout está callada mucho rato es porque algo está tramando... Mientras todos estaban pendientes de los regalos y del pastel de Conchita, ella y Banana se hicieron cargo de las galletas... Dice que es que a Banana le gustan más en el suelo, que los platos no son para osos de verdad.

Conchita's birthday cake

Minus' birthday will be in a few days, and there's nothing that Conchita likes more than a good party with a big chocolate cake. I've already told you about how Conchita's granny is teaching her how to make cakes, so last weekend they spent the whole Sunday trying recipes for Minus' party.

Conchita says that it's all for the children, but let's be honest here, I know that she's the one crazy about chocolate... For this special event she's going to bake two chocolate cakes. One really huge with two tiers, with cream and strawberries and another one with truffles, and cherries. i'm so looking forward the party... we're going to stuff ourselves...

Dentro de poco es el cumpleaños de Minus, y no hay nada que le guste más a Conchita que una buena fiesta de con un gran pastel de chocolate. Ya os conté cómo su abuela le enseña a hacer pasteles los fines de semana, así que el pasado domingo estuvieron probando recetas para la fiesta de Minus.

Conchita dice que lo hace por los niños, pero.... yo se que en realidad es a ella a quien le vuelve loca el chocolate. Para esta ocasión ha preparado dos pasteles. Uno gigante de dos pisos, con nata y fresas y otro de trufa con crema y cerezas. Estoy deseando que llegue la fiesta... cómo nos vamos a poner!

-2,5mm crochet hook (B / 00 / 1 ½ EEUU)
-A round piece of cardboard of 5,5 cm aprox.
-Fabric glue
-Stitch marker
-Tapestry needle
-Scissors
-Polyfill stuffing

Nata
Con el color crema y trabajando en la lazada que ha quedado sin trabajar en la fila 8, trabaja los 24 puntos en punto de cangrejo. 

HOW TO WORK THE REVERSE SINGLE CROCHET?

CÓMO HACER EL PUNTO DE CANGREJO?

Reverse single crochet is used normally as an embellishment or edge. This stitch is a single crochet stitch but worked from left to right instead of right to left.

El punto de cangrejo se usa normalmente como embellecedor, como remate. Se trata ni más ni menos que de un punto bajo, pero en vez de trabajar de derecha a izquierda como hacemos siempre, en este caso lo haremos de izquierda a derecha.

Insert cream yarn in any front loop of round 8 and work a sc in the front loop that is on its right. Keep making sc to the right. It can be a bit tricky at the beginning since you're used to make it the other way around, but it's actually a very easy stitch. A tip to make it look neat is to maintain the gauge and the rhythm when crocheting it. It requires just a little bit of practice.

Inserta el hilo color crema en cualquier lazada de las que ha quedado sin trabajar en le fila 8, y haz un punto bajo en la lazada queda a su derecha. Sigue haciendo puntos bajos hacia la derecha. Es un punto sencillo pero al principio puedes confundirte, ya que es al revés de lo que estás acostumbrada. El truco para que quede bonito es mantener la tensión y el ritmo a la hora de tejer, y esto requiere un poquito de práctica.

Strawberries

Using the read yarn, make some french knots around the frosting.

Con el rojo haz varios nudos franceses alrededor de la fila de nata.

ASSEMBLING

MONTAJE

Glue the cardboard piece to the base with the fabrics glue. With the tapestry needle, attach the base to the first tier since you have 2 cm left. Stiff the piece (not too much) and finish closing. Now you have your cake, but if you want you can upgrade it with a top tier ;)

Pega la pieza de cartón a la base con el pegamento para tejidos. Con la aguja de tapicero cose la base al primer piso hasta que te queden un par de cm. Rellena la pieza (no mucho, déjala blandita) y termina de cerrar. Ahora ya tienes tu pastel, puedes dejarlo así o hacerle un nuevo piso.

You can also add some chocolate confetti by embroidering it. 

Añade confeti de chocolate bordado, en los colores que te gusten.

Now you're ready for Minus' party! Try different cakes by changing colors and embellishments. If you make it in white and add more tiers you can have a nice wedding cake!

Ya estás preparada para la fiesta de Minus! Prueba otros tipos de pastel cambiando los colores y los adornos. Si lo haces en blanco y con algún piso más puedes hacer un pastel de bodas!

El Día de Reyes de Conchita y Kleine Louis

In Spain, Christmas Holidays aren't over until the Epiphany day (January the 6th), "La Noche de Reyes", when The Three Wise Men, (los Reyes Magos) bring presents to children  while they're sleeping...  Only if they've been good kids during the year, otherwise they'll bring you a piece of coal!

Todo el año esperando este día, verdad? A mi hace ya años que los reyes no me traen nada (soy taaaan mala que no me traen ni carbón), pero me sigue haciendo ilusión esta noche. Quién sabe... quizás este año vuelva a dejar mis zapatos bajo la ventana, a ver si hay suerte...

The night of the 5th of January is the most exciting night in the year. We use to leave our shoes under the Christmas Tree or close to the window and we also leave some cookies and milk for the Three Kings and their camels. Next morning we'd find the glasses empty, a lot of presents and... el Roscón de Reyes! El Roscón de Reyes is a ring-shaped cake that we eat on Epiphany day for breakfast. It contains inside a plastic or ceramic tiny toy, a dry bean or a coin. You'll also find a rolled paper crown in the ring. If you find the toy, the coin or the bean, you can wear the crown and you'll be the king of the day! This is how Kleine Louis and Conchita spent their Día de los Reyes Magos:

      

Conchita baked some cookies yesterday afternoon. They look delicious... "Hey Kleine Louis, stay away from this cookies! The're not for you! They're for Los Reyes Magos!"

Conchita pasó ayer toda la tarde horneando galletas para los reyes y sus camellos. Siempre he pensado que deben de acabar la noche hartos de tanta galleta y tanta leche! Quizás alguien debería arriesgarse y probar con un bocadillo de chorizo, a ver qué pasa.... Ahora que recuerdo en mi casa mi madre dejaba siempre una copa de cava en vez de un vaso de leche... me pregunto porqué sería....

Here they're, waiting sooo impatiently... they've served milk and cookies for the kings and their camels and left their shoes under the tree. Well done! Now go to sleep! They won't come if you're awake!

      

Cómo recuerdo esa tarde del día 5.... en la que a las 6 de la tarde ya te quieres meter en la cama para que pase cuanto antes la noche! Para luego no poder dormir de los nervios... Yo era de las que a las 7 de la mañana ya estaba despertando a toda la familia, no podía aguantar... Y por lo que veo, estos dos me han salido igual!

Madre mía, pero si han traído un roscón y todo! Qué bueno, es de nata, mi favorito! Pues con vuestro permiso... me voy a desayunar!

Kleine Louis and Conchita are designed and made by me. I made the tree following the Lazy Hobbyhopper pattern, for the cookies I used part of the Milky Robot pattern,  and el Roscón de Reyes is an adaptation of the original roscón pattern by great designer Kraft Croch. 

Conchita's crochet blanket

Conchita has been very busy and mysterious lately, but finally I've found out what was going on... she's been crocheting a blanket for Kleine Louis as a Christmas present! But shhh... don't tell him anything, it's a surprise.

Conchita ha estado estos días muy ocupada y misteriosa. Yo me preguntaba en qué andaba metida, pero ya lo he descubierto. Estaba haciendo una colcha de ganchillo para regalársela a Kleine Louis por Navidad! Parece que las clases de Proyecto Colcha le han venido muy bien y le ha quedado un trabajo precioso. Me alegro!

La cantidad de granny squares que ha tejido! Pero la verdad es que la ha hecho bastante rápido. Ojalá me haga una a mi también...

She has crocheted so many tiny granny squares!! But actually she's quite fast. If only she made one for me...

Es que en invierno no hay mayor placer que tejer bajo la manta. A que si, Conchita?

In the winter time, there's no better pleasure than crocheting under the blanket, isn't it Conchita?

Would you like to know how to make this tiny crochet blanket?

Quieres saber cómo ha hecho Conchita la colcha? Yo te lo explico, es muy fácil:

As we're crocheting a minuature is better to use a thin yarn, like the ones that you use for baby clothes, for example. Chain 3 in a magic ring (count as a dc), 3 dc, chain 2, *4 dc, chain 2. Repeat from * 2 times, join with a slip stitch and fasten off.

Te recomiendo que uses la lana más fina que encuentres, tipo las que se usan para bebé, por ejemplo. Y una aguja también fina, piensa que estamos tejiendo miniaturas... 3 cadenetas en anillo mágico (equivalen a un punto alto), 3 puntos altos, 2 cad, *4 pa, 2 cad. Repetir desde * 2 veces. Unir con punto raso y cerrar. Ya tienes hecho tu mini granny square. 

Crochet as many granny squares as you need and join them with single crochet. Then, crochet two sc rounds and add a nice edge. I've used this one:

*5 dc in same stitch

Skip 2 sc

1 sc, 3 ch, 1 sc in next sc

Skip 2 sc

Repeat from *

Ahora teje cuantos necesites y únelos con punto bajo. Una vez unidos todos teje dos vueltas de punto bajo, haciendo 3 puntos bajos en las esquinas. En cuanto a la puntilla, puedes hacer la que más te guste, la que yo he hecho es así: 

*5 puntos altos en el mismo punto, 

Saltamos 2 pb, 

1 pb, 3 cad y 1 pb en el siguiente pb, 

Saltamos 2 pb

Repetir desde *
